Description

The main contents deal with wind power in the energy system with specific topics on relevant themes. These include wind power technology, production, life-cycle of wind projects, large-scale wind power, grid integration, electricity markets, offshore wind power, measurement technology, production estimates, environmental analyses, technology trends, and modelling tools. Exercises use planning and modelling software.

This is an optional course in the Advanced Energy Technologies major.

The contents are not especially difficult, but there is a lot to learn and the exercises require a fair amount of time.

Practicalities

The final grade is based entirely on the final exam. Exercises must also be submitted and passed. There are eight exercises, including four reports. All reports must be submitted and at least three passed. Most exercises are Excel calculations, and one uses WindPro.

Compulsory prerequisite: At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.

Trivia

Exercise sessions are offered and are useful but not mandatory. Many exercises can be completed during a single exercise session. The course also includes several guest lecturers from wind power companies.
