Description
The focus is on Nordic and European electricity markets and international fuel markets. Power plant costs and profitability are discussed and there are calculation exercises related to those topics. Other topics are for example district heat markets in Finland, electricity storage technologies, European energy and climate regulation and energy security. This course gives a good overall picture of the current situation of, especially European, energy markets.
This is an optional course in the Advanced Energy Technologies major and is a good introductory course for other courses related to energy production.

The contents of the course are not very heavy, but there is quite a lot to learn.

Practicalities
Final exam in the EXAM environment and six exercises, mostly calculations using Excel. The exam consists of calculations and essay-style questions. The maximum score in the course exam is 24 points. Three additional points can be earned from the exercises (0.5 points each).

Recommended prerequisites: B.Sc. degree with studies in energy technology or electrical engineering.
